Republicans say they would work on a budget deal

Jim Durkin says he is willing to "negotiate with the Democratic majority to break the budget impasse" in Springfield.

Illinois has been without a state budget for about two years. That breakdown is caused by strongly held opposing viewpoints from Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and powerful Democratic Illinois Speaker of the House Michael Madigan, who has the votes to block any Republican proposal.

Durkin is the Republican Minority Leader in the House. A 17-year veteran of the Illinois Legislature, he has been the Republican House leader since 2013. ...
